Finished product

This is my finished product that I made. The picture underneath was my inspiration to how to paint it. The reason why I did it this way is because I'm very bad at painting humans, and therefore I chose to take the focus away from Jesus Christ on the cross. In stead I made the cross that Jesus Christ was on, by adding his name tag on it, even though it wouldn't really be necessary, because it is already so symbolic in itself.

Time assessment

Jesus on the CrossThis painting if of Jesus Christ on the cross, and I love this picture because it says a million words. It has a story to it that is timeless, and which means a lot to many people. When looking at the picture I would say that the time stands still, but from a religious point of view the picture has a forever lasting time.  This picture was painted in the 17th century by a Spanish painter, but there are over a thousand paintings of the exact picture. When he painted this picture I think that he painted it because it would be a peace that is maybe not so uncommon, but it will always be valuable. Christianity is a very common religion that many believe in.
In my opinion I think that the most important symbol in this picture is the cross, because we know that Jesus is the main thing, but the cross is what expresses the time. It expresses pain and belief as well as it expresses a time period back in the days. It is a old picture and crucifixion does not exist any more, and therefore we know that it is very long back in time.
I think that painting this picture must have taken quite a long time, because it has a lot of details even though it is a quite simple background. I think that is only because the painter chose to have a neutral background to make the focus on the cross and Jesus. I would say that this picture is as relevant today as it was many years back, but today we may have a bit of another understanding to it than people back in the days had, which makes the painting ever so interesting.

Time Unit

Today's lesson we got to research a bit on pictures or icons that we wanted to use for our time Unit. I thought that I didn't want to make a watch, but a picture that expresses time. Therefore I thought a bit about it and I found out that I wanted to make a painting of Jesus when he was on the cross. Then in the background there would be a big sunset. Both the sunset will then symbolize time, but also Jesus himself. The whole story behind it. There are many that believe in God, and Jesus, and they have become figures of a lot of peoples lives. They are icons/people that will never go out on date and are directly timeless.

New unit Time

This week we started with the new unit Time. It is a very interesting unit that has more to it than one could imagine. All paintings have a way of showing time, if its fast or slow, or even timeless.

We got to see a lot of different types of pictures and analysed them and tried to understand how the time in pictures work. Even though we are not going to create a painting but a clock. It is very important that we know the purpose of the unit and the whole background to it.

Evaluation on my Self portrait unit

This lesson all the students in class evaluated each others product. I was very happy with all my comments, since they were mostly positive as well as they ticked all the right boxes. My fellow students really liked it and said that there were good shadings and funny colour use. It was most definitely me, and the symbolism was also very clear. All the details seemed to say something about me, especially the yellow dots on the black background. Which could be from spotlights on stage to camera flashes. Then it was the way I had drawn the picture, that I had made my eyes really big. Which apparently means a beautiful woman.
I got some negative comments too, but none of them were rude. It was that the nose looked a bit like a potato, and I have to agree with that. Also that I looked really old, but apparently it is really difficult to draw women and keep them look young.

Then after that we got a quick overview of the new unit Time.
